Toughness and athleticism are the calling cards for Darius Hicks who continues to add interest on the recruiting trail.
Power forward Darius Hicks has been an integral piece to the 22 Ft. Academy roster this season. A rugged and athletic kid who will do the dirty work down low and compete on the glass, Hicks is now seeing an increase in his recruitment.
“The year has been going pretty good,” said Hicks of the season. “We have been playing against good teams, and I feel like we have been playing well and competing against some of the best teams in the country
He continued, “I am working hard to improve my scoring ability. Also I am working on getting stronger and finishing through contact.”
On the recruiting trail the Mississippi native says two schools are recruiting him the hardest
“The schools talking to me the most have been Providence and Marquette,” said Hicks.
Providence has been involved with Hicks since the fall, and he has built a good relationship with the coaching staff.
“I have a really good relationship with Coach (Ed) Cooley and Coach (Jeff) Battle,” said Hicks. “They are great guys and Providence is a great team.”
Marquette has been a bit of a newer addition to his recruitment, and Hicks says things have really picked up recently.
“Coach (Chris) Carrawell recruited me this summer, and a few weeks ago I started talking to Coach Stan Johnson, and they have been talking to me a lot recently,” noted Hicks of Marquette.
With a busy schedule Hicks hasn’t had a chance to make any official visits yet, but he did note that will change in the near future.
“I am not exactly sure when I’m going to take my visits, but probably in March when our game schedule and their schedule can work out,” said Hicks.
Hicks should be making a decision after the season, and when he does, he knows what factors will be important.
“I am looking for somewhere that I can play right away and where I have a good relationship with the coaching staff,” said Hicks.
